We All Knit at Eweknit

This addition to the TTC Knitalong did not even exist during last year’s event. Eweknit on Markham street in Mirvish Village officially opened last August. It has very quickly grown into a thriving fiber community. This is due in large part to the warm, generous atmosphere created by the store’s owner Claudia, and to her conscious effort to offer a unique knitting/shopping experience. According to the website,
“We’ve made an effort to stock yarns that you may not find elsewhere – such as a range of Classic Elite, Filatura di Crosa, …, and Zen Yarn Garden – alongside old favourites such as Berroco, Cascade, and Noro.” The luxury and laceweight section of the store is beyond compare, offering a large selection of beautifully displayed silk, cashmere and fine metallics.

Eweknit proudly stocks a line of project bags and needle cases from justshirts, a fair trade co-operative in El Salvador that Claudia and her husband helped found. The co-op is run and staffed by single mothers. The t-shirts and now, knitting bags they produce, provide a steady income for many families.

There is a small café in the store’s front section so you can enjoy coffee or tea while you knit or take a class. Can’t find a class you need? No problem. They are happy to book private lessons to help with your specific knitting needs. There are plans to expand into other crafty areas soon. Keep your eye on the Eweknit blog to learn more.

Closest TTC:  Exit Bathurst station from the Markham Street side and head South. Be careful crossing Bloor Street as there are no traffic lights at this intersection.
