After heading bravely into Scarborough for the first time last year (Creative Yarns is back this year! Yay!), it only seemed right to give Etobicoke its due. It’s been a few years since the Knitalong hit Kipling Station, so we are very happy that Wool Gathering has recently opened to fill that void.
Wool Gathering is Toronto’s newest yarn and knitting store. They have a lovely yarn selection and several comfy chairs in which to knit with it. What sets them apart is that they also specialize in traditional rug hooking, selling the fabric strips and supplies you need to create your own beautiful rugs. A beginner? Don’t worry – there’s a class for that! There are also specialized knitting classes available such as the upcoming one on thrummed mittens.
“The store is set up so it is welcoming to come and sit and knit or hook for an afternoon or an evening. I want people to be comfortable coming for an extended period of time.” says owner/manager Jo-Anne Harris. Jo-Anne has been busily building up her inventory and class offerings according to what her customers want and is always open to suggestions regarding what you’d like to see at your LYS.
Currently the shop is on reduced summer hours getting ready for a busy fall. However, Joanne is often in the shop working and is happy to accommodate requests to visit outside of posted hours. Visit the website for details. Stop by on your own or as part of a Knitalong team to see the gorgeous rugs on display.
Closest TTC: Located on Advance Road at Kipling, just three stops from Kipling station on the 44 Kipling South bus.
